Why Period Undies Leak, Not Your Fault
Most of us thought period undies were the dream solution, right?
Soft, comfy, planet-friendly, and a break from the noisy plastic rustle of pads.
And for the most part?
Yes — bliss.
Except when Day 1 or 2 roll around.
That’s when the old anxiety creeps back in…
“Can I really trust these”
Because while the comfort’s there, the protection often isn’t.
And suddenly you’re right back in leak-check mode.
(And backup pads come with their own quiet little issues most people never hear about.)
The Bathroom Dash & The “Can You Check My Bum?” Moment
If you’ve ever:
... then leak worry is normal.

Why the Usual Period Undie Design Leaks
Most brands knock-off the same original template — and the same original flaw.
Here's how most period undies almost work:
Layer 1 — Top Transfer Layer
Soft knit fabric that wicks fluid downward.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ⬇
Layer 2 — Absorbent Centre
Thick absorbent material (usually synthetic).
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ⬇
Layer 3 — Waterproof Lining
A thin liner meant to stop leaks.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ⬇
Outer Fabric
The bit you see (meant to stay dry).
Individually, these layers are fine.
Together?
They share one major weak link.
The Wet Link: The Stitching

Every layer above is stitched together — and that stitching becomes the escape route.
Thread doesn’t just hold layers together.
It _connects_ them.
(Starting to see the problem?)
And it wicks moisture like tiny little blood-vessel highways.
So once the inner layers become wet enough, moisture gradually travels:
Once one layer gets soggy, there's no way to stop the mess from spreading.
When you’re seated.
Pressure is applied.
And guess what?
Stains on:
pants, car seat, friend’s couch, and...
jumper-tied-around-waist situations.
This isn’t wearer error.
This is design error.
The Thigh-Gap Trap (Why Side Leaks Happen So Fast)
What if you’re not sitting much?
So you're on your feet, moving around.
Well, there's the...
thigh-gap trap.
Here’s why:
- Every soggy layer is stitched to the thread
- The thread is stitched to the leg elastic
- The leg elastic sits tight against your inner thighs
- Your thigh-gap is the narrowest part of the entire gusset
- Less fabric + shorter distance + movement
- Add gravity
→ 🌊 fluid finds the fastest escape path
Why They Work on Light Days But Fail on Heavy Ones
The OG period undie design is good enough for:
- light days
- spotting
- mid-cycle discharge
But not for:
- Day 1–2 gush moments
- overnight pressure
- sitting for long periods
- heavier flows
- long wear times

Those original designs?
Yeah… it’s kind of flawed, if we’re being honest.
We Thought the Same Thing You Did…
We all assumed:
“Okay, lighter days sorted.
Day 1 and 2… back to backup pads."
We had already accepted wearing backups was normal.
(been like this for decades for those of us with heavy flows and a bit paranoid when out).
Until we realised:
the entire industry was using the same template.
Nobody had redesigned period undies since they came out — they were just following each other.
No wonder everyone leaks in the same places.
So we decided this norm is not good enough and started re-designing from the bottom up.
This Is Why Pee Chee Cheex Exists
We didn’t want a slightly better version of the same flawed design.
We wanted something that:
- stops leaks everywhere
- prevents stitching from becoming a leaking highway
- protects the thigh-gap
- feels soft and cool
- uses no added chemicals
- doesn't smell funky after 50 to 100 washes
- absorbs 12+ tampons’ worth
- is protected by patents
- works on DAY ONE — not just day four
57 prototypes later, we nailed it.
If You’ve Ever Thought “Maybe It’s Me…
It’s not you.
It was the flawed design.
And it’s been letting us down for years.
And while we were fixing that… we noticed something else most people never hear about.
A lot of us rely on extra backup pads on heavy days. But disposable pads and tampons come with their own underlying issues too — including some surprising findings that keep showing up in studies, even in 2024.
Let’s just say it’s not something big brands talk about… buuut it keeps showing up in the studies.
(We did the research... and made a simple, easy-to-read summary you can look at anytime.)
Finally — a pair that works how you always hoped period undies would.
Pee Chee Cheex. Leakproof reinvented from the bottom up.
With care,
